Day in the Life with Lukas

Meet Lukas, a senior from New York City, double majoring in physics and chemistry.

An Academic All-American on the men’s basketball team, he’s slated to continue his engineering studies next year at Columbia University.

Lukas’ day starts at his 18th Street townhouse, continues at Fisher Hall with physics labs and lectures, ventures by Bento Sushi for lunch and closes out at the Garrett Sports Complex.

Hello, my name is Lukas Yurasits. I'm a double major in physics and chemistry on the men's basketball team. And today I'll be showing you a little bit of a day in my life here at Susquehanna. So my day usually starts with a five minute walk from my 18th Street townhouses, which is super convenient to any of my academic buildings here on campus. So this is Fisher Hall. This is probably my first half of the day to either come from my physics labs or my physics lectures. I've been doing a lot of my capstone research here, which is about using piezo electric disks to hopefully understand the forces that the foot outputs for sneaker testing techniques. To help me become a sneaker engineer, as my dream job in the next five years. The physics faculty have been great mentors for me, these past couple years, helping me troubleshoot any problems I've had, with my capstone research. Being open for any problems or questions for academic classes, but also prepare me for my engineering studies next year at Columbia University. So there are a lot of great places to eat on campus. Bento Sushi is probably my favorite place to come for lunch. They have a wide variety of things like their sushi, their rice bowls, their ramen and their poke bowls. My favorite thing is a salmon poke bowl. It's delicious. So usually after lunch, you guys can find me here at the physics lounge. I usually come here to either study, or I'm here also as a tutor. It's a great resource for students who need some extra help. But it's also a great opportunity for student employment. So this is the last half of my day at the Garrett Sports Complex. This is where I'm coming for practice in season or pick up an out of season. Come into the training room for some treatment, and get my body right, or lift to get stronger for practice. So I think Division III Athletics, the biggest part for me has always been the balance. And I could put 100% in both of my classrooms and lab, but also put my 100% on the floor. They never conflict with one another. They're very complimentary of one another, making sure that I'm always on top of my schedule, and never procrastinating. It really helps my time management to make sure that I'm on top both my work and my athletic life, on the court and off.
